Guided Tour of Monte do Ramalho

Welcome!

Monte do Ramalho, in the heart of Avis, is a traditional Alentejo estate with various spacious areas, both indoors and outdoors.
With nearly a century of history in the hands of the same family, Monte do Ramalho was initially founded as a farmstead. Today, it offers the conditions needed to welcome you in a cozy and peaceful environment where everything happens slowly.

Surrounded by the most beautiful Alentejo landscape and located in the Wine Route area, our space has everything to provide you with unforgettable moments of pleasure and relaxation.

The houses designated for tourism date back to 1830. This cluster was originally the main Monte of the large Herdade do Ramalho until the 1930s, when it was replaced by the current family home, built about 300 meters away. Since then, the Monte has been known as Monte Velho or Monte dos Forrageais (due to its location in the area where animal fodder was produced) and became a shelter for the various generations of farm workers who passed through.

Alentejo houses are always oriented east/west, with the southern façade lacking windows to keep them cooler during the harsh summers. They are whitewashed annually, preserving the whiteness and insulation that make them so special. The three little houses of Monte do Ramalho—Giesta, Esteva, and Alecrim—maintain their rustic and hospitable character and are waiting for you for a relaxing getaway.

With agricultural production spread over 2000 acres, 1400 of which are olive groves, our estate also offers suitable spaces for events, including three covered pavilions of varying capacities, a beautiful traditional Alentejo threshing floor illuminated with festive lights, a modest chapel dedicated to Santa Teresinha, a very generous biological swimming pool, several green and shaded areas, and some iconic spots for weddings, such as the majestic century-old fig tree, which is often chosen for the civil ceremony.

At Monte do Ramalho, there’s space and time for everything: walks or bike rides, traditional snacks generously shared at the table, naps to the sound of cicadas, reading in the shade, animals to pat, and of course, parties to celebrate the most beautiful and special days.
Always infused with the Alentejo hospitality, the gentle warmth that seeps from the ground, and the most breathtakingly starry sky.

We look forward to welcoming you!
